When we talk about hosting servers, there are 3 main kinds - shared website hosting servers, VPS (private virtual hosting servers) and dedicated hosting servers. Shared web servers host multiple customers and hence the resources per account are restricted, virtual private server plans give you more configuration liberty, but also influence other VPS servers on the hardware node if used unwisely, and dedicated servers offer you the freedom to do everything you choose without meddling with anyone else.

Why would you need a dedicated hosting server?

Dedicated servers are traditionally much more high-priced than shared servers or VPS servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The answer is very simple. If your company has a high-traffic site, or simply has very exact server configuration requirements, the smartest choice would be a dedicated server. For someone who is prepared to invest in security and reliability, the higher price is of no importance. You are bestowed with root access and can utilize 100 percent of the dedicated web server's system resources without anyone else utilizing these system resources and meddling with your web portals.

Hardware specifications

The majority of shared hosting corporations, including us at Deploy Hosting, provide several different hardware architectures you can pick from depending on your necessities. The hardware configurations include different types of microprocessors, a different amount of cores, different RAM memory and hard drive sizes and different bandwidth allowances. You can pick a web hosting Control Panel, which is a convenient interface if you would like to use the dedicated hosting web server for web hosting purposes solely and prefer not to use SSH for all the changes you will be making. We offer three sorts of hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The Control Panel of your choosing

If you are a self-confident Linux OS user (our servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could manage your dedicated server via an SSH terminal only. That, however, could be awkward, even more so if you choose to grant root-level access to someone else who has less technical skills than yourself. That is why having web hosting Control Panel software pre-activated is a fine idea. The Hepsia hosting CP tool that we provide does not offer complete root-level access and is mostly suitable for somebody who runs a lot of web portals that consume a lot of system resources, but would like to manage the websites, databases and e-mail aliases through a user-friendly web hosting Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel Control Panels, on the other hand, give you root privileges and have 3 levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell hosting accounts instead of using the web hosting server only for yourself, you should choose one of these two.

Web server monitoring and backup services

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated hosting server and of backing it up. In case of a problem with your dedicated hosting web server, such as a non-responsive Apache or a network downtime, it is good to have some sort of monitoring system activated. Here at Deploy Hosting the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated hosting server as well. Backups are also a bonus feature - the hosting distributor offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could pick a kind of RAID that would permit you to keep the very same data on two server hard disks as a precaution in case of a server hard disk failure, or in case someone whom you have given access erases something accidentally.
